Joel McHale has been making fun of television for years and since he started as the host, The Soup has just been getting better and better.

The Soup as it’s now called, started out as Talk Soup in 1991 with then host Greg Kinnear. Over the years many different hosts have done the show including Aisha Tyler and John Henson. Joel McHale joined the show in 2004 and after a few tweaks and a name change the show was rescurrected to his former glory days.

There were talks of a few different show names before The Soup was decided on, and was very nearly called the What The? Awards.

Joel McHale has not only made a name for himself with viewers, but also the big name Hollywood executives. His popularity amongst them is now on the rise with offers of movies and television series.

Joel McHale has always said that he came to Hollywood to make movies and his dream is about to come true when The Informant is released in September 2009 which he plays an FBI agent alongside Matt Damon and Scott Bakula.

The Soup has a number of popular segments including Chat Stew, Chicks Man, Reality Show Clip Time, and Lets Take Some E! which focus of different television genres.

Many of the staff regularly get shown on the show as well as different characters such as Mankini, Matt the Intern, the Star Wars Nerds and Little Gay.

Lou the Chihuahua is another regular on the show. Lou (who is owned by executive producer Edward Boyd) shows up in various segments including Clip of the Week and more.

The Soup specials appear regularly as well. Often called The Soup Presents …, these show some of the funniest television clips of that year that have previously been on the show.

Joel McHale really did save The Soup from demise, but what will happen to the show if he leaves to pursue acting full time?
