Britney Spears’ former assistant is going on a promo campaign in an attempt to tarnish the already broken and battered image of the once princess of pop.

Kalie Machado, who briefly worked for Britney during the peak of her post-pregnancy breakdown, tells Us Weekly that following the break-up with Kevin Federline, Britney desperately tried to win him back.

“She wanted so badly to have the father of her babies. When Britney thought about Kevin not wanting her, she would bawl,” Machado says. “She would look at Sean and Jayden and say, ‘Where’s your daddy? I need help. Where’s your daddy?”

Sadly, her obsession didn’t end there. Brit reportedly kept framed photographs of she and K-Fed all over the house: “She would ask, ‘Why did he do this to me? It just made her crazy and depressed.”

Adds Machado: “She needs mental help!”

After a long day at school, Britney Spears wasn’t particularly pleased to see the paparazzi - especially the ones jumping out in front of her car! Then again, given her automotive luck lately, we can’t really blame her for calling in the Beverly Hills police department to read the overzealous paps the riot act while she drove off.

Besides, we’re willing to cut Brit some slack - if we had to spend all day in class with Kevin, our tempers would be pretty short too!

Britney Spears’ current state of denial excels her personal problems — it also weights into her legal ongoing battles.

Lawyers representing the songstress plan to plead not guilty to the misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid license at a court hearing scheduled for tomorrow.

After reaching a financial settlement earlier this week, her hit and run charge will most likely be dropped.

Meanwhile, photogs snapped a package of Provigil, a prescription drug used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness (and narcolepsy), in Brit’s open purse as she made her way to her first co-parenting class with Kevin Federline today at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

While the drug is not necessarily addictive, Provigil works as a stimulant to keep you from falling asleep.

In other words, Britney really is the new Anna Nicole Smith!
